Alexey really invests in the future in regard to quality wine, and he bought recently 3,6 hectares of land suited for vineyards growing; he hasn't planted this surface yet, that's an investment, and ideally, he'd like to buy a total of 10 hectares on good slopes and with good exposition and plant the whole. What he hopes is that in the future, say in 5 or 6 years from now, the law changes and that he could be allowed to sell his wines. But for now, all he can do is plant vineyards, keep some grapes for his garage-wine production and sell the other grapes.
The wines that we tasted are made from selected grapes purchased here and there, including from Guennadi Oparin (see a previous story). And this october, he starts to build a storage building in his gargen (separate from his house) for 15 or 15 casks, and to store bottles too.
For his day job at Russkaya Loza, he also worked on a project for a new winery part of Russkaya Loza, where high-end wines would be made, but the project didn't materialize.
For the anecdote, the industrial winery for which he works has an output of 200 000 hectoliters or 20 million liter. It buys bulk wine in countries like Brazil, Spain or Argentina and bottle them here. An odd thing is also that they buy dry wine and sell 80% of sweet wines....
Malolactic fermentation made. No SO2 here, not even to wash the bottles (the bottles are just rinsed with hot water).
This year, he will vinify Rhein Riesling (this will be his first white ever, here), and some Chardonnay, plus 1 ton of Cabernet & 1 ton of Merlot (this is already done at the time this story is published).
He plans to buy 2 other stainless-steel vats with a capacity of 500 liters each, and 2 new casks for this new vintage. that's what I'd call an already fast-developping winery...
